Galapagos cruises and tours, San Jose YachtFloreana.- Has an area of 173 square kilometers and a maximum altitude of 640 meters. It was one of the first islands to become populated and stirred up a great deal of polemic issues in the International media early in the 20th century. Several books have been published about Floreana and its secrets, to name a couple you have the most famous one “Floreana, the mailing list” by Margret Wittmer, that tells the story about a German family the Wittmers that were the first successful people to ever live on it, previously some foreigners had unsuccessfully tried to do it, some Norwegians and Americans, and also some other Germans, however Rolf Wittmar was the very first native at the island. Pink flamingoes and green sea turtles nest (December to May) and also a small population of the Galapagos Penguins is found here. At Post Office Bay, since the 18th century whalers kept a wooden barrel that served as post office so that mail could be picked up and delivered to their destination mainly Europe and the United States by ships on their way home. At the “Devil’s Crown”, an underwater volcanic cone, coral formations are found.
