From Quito, rather than waiting for the less frequent buses to Baños, you might prefer to take a bus to Ambato and from there another one to Baños: there are buses Ambato-Baños every half an hour.

By plane, there two companies that will bring you to Cuenca: Icaro & Tame. With both companies you can departure from Quito and Guayaquil.
