Excursion to the Ingapirca Ruins
Originally, the Incas had an impressively large system of roads here in Ecuador, measuring about 5,000 kilometers in length; a larger system than the Roman Empire had.
Today, there exists few remnants of this road system, but what is left is incredibly interesting.

Ingapirca Ruins.- The Ingapirca Ruins are the Province’s most important attraction. These Inca ruins were built over a settlement of the Cañari culture known as the "Ingapirca Castle" and they encompass an ellipse, chambers, patios, warehouses and baths. It is believed that Ingapirca was not only a fortress but also an administrative and religious center. Next to the ruins is an on site museum which holds a model of the ruins, archeological and ethnographic pieces, ceramics, jewels and textile relics.
